Fun Craft Ideas for the Holidays
Crafting a holiday wreath

Crafting. The word just sounds fun. Most everyone has some type of craft they enjoy. For some it is the relaxation in actually making the craft. For others, it is the fulfillment of finishing something. It is a hobby and for many, it can become a little extra spending money.

Whether you like the feel of wood or clay in your hands; enjoy working with yarn or on the sewing machine; or have a knack for detailed painting, you are crafting. And, there is no time that is more fun to craft for than the winter holidays.

Holiday Wreaths

A simple, yet unique way to decorate for the holidays is to adorn your front door with a handmade wreath. There are numerous ways in which you can do this. One way is by collecting dead tree branches (perhaps collecting those from your own tree in the backyard), fashioning them together in a large circle and finally embellishing them with red and green ribbons and bows. You could also visit your local craft store to buy the branches if your yard is fresh out. Here’s a great example of a simple yet elegant wreath.

Centerpieces

Another fun and easy project is creating a holiday centerpiece. For this one, all you’ll need is a glass vase or bowl and pine cones. Depending on the size of the vase or bowl, you can buy (or find) pine cones of different sizes. The best part of this project is that the smell of the pine will fill your home with holiday goodness. To jazz up the project a bit, you can simply paint glue onto the pine cones and sprinkle with holiday-themed glitter. It will add a splash of color all the while permeating the delicious aroma throughout your home. See an example here.

Candle Holders

If creating projects that will not only add the look of the holidays to your home, but the smell too, you can also easily create scented candle holders. Simple find a small, tall vase that a candle can safely fit into. Line the vase, either by glue or ribbon, with cinnamon sticks. The heat from the lit candle will activate the cinnamon sticks, thereby filling your home with a palatable fragrance. Don’t forget to save some cinnamon sticks for a cup of hot cocoa!

Kid-Friendly Crafts

With all this holiday-craft fun, you can’t forget about the kids. There are a ton of crafts you can do with kids of all ages. For example, you can create snowmen popsicle sticks with googly eyes, cotton balls, pipe cleaners and, of course, popsicle sticks. This is a great project for the younger kids. Something for the older kids, knitting your own mittens, scarves and winter socks can fill the entire season. They could also make great gifts and stocking stuffers for friends and family.

Holiday season is crafting season and there is so much that can be done to warm the home, and make gifts for family and friends. Still others spend the year creating crafts to sell at bazaars or online for this time of year. It is up to you, how far you want to take your craft. But, most of all relax and enjoy it.
