How To Use a Martingale Collar

 

A Martingale Collar is an incredibly useful collar design, especially for owners of sight hounds. It is critical that you know how to use a Martingale collar. First-time buyers might not know that there is a correct and an incorrect way to use a Martingale collar. If you count yourself among them, please consult the following pointers to ensure your dog has a safe, comfortable experience with their Martingale collar.

Step 1:

Your Country Brook Design tag should be visible from the inside and will touch your dog's neck. This is the best way to ensure that you are using the correct loop to slip your dog's head through.

Step 2:

Another way to know that you are using the correct loop is to check the Rectangle Ring. When everything is correct, there is a gap in the rectangle ring through which you'll be able to see your dog's neck.

Step 3:

This collar is not correct. Notice that the Country Brook Design tag is hidden. This collar will not work as is.

Step 4:

Also note the Rectangle Ring. It is not facing correctly into the collar and there is no gap through which to see your dog's neck.

Five Easy Steps to Successfully Place a Martingale Collar on Your Dog

 

  1. Slide and Adjust the collar so its big enough to go over your dogs head
  2. Pull up the D-ring, adjust by pulling the collar through the triglide
  3. Tighten the collar over the dogs neck
  4. Measure fit and make sure two fingers fit between the collar and the dogs neck
  5. Attach and clip the leash into the D-ring on the collar's loop
